BT EXTREME 40 finish 6th overall at first iShares Cup regatta
It proved to be a tough initiation in the first 2009 iShares Cup
event in Venice (15-17 May) for Nick Moloney and his crew on the
BT Extreme 40, helmed by Olympic Tornado sailor Darren Bundock.
After 17 short and intense races, sailed just meters from the
shore along the Riva dei Setti – a stone's throw from St Mark's
Square – the BT Extreme 40 finished 6th overall at the end of
the third day.
The crew including Steve Mitchell, Ed Barney,
Darren and Nick have spent the winter following their own
programmes and although the guys raced the BT Extreme 40
together last season, finishing third overall on the podium for
the iShares Cup 2008, it proved harder than imagined to get up
to speed again in the first event: "We're getting beaten up and
doing our training here unfortunately.
We really thought having
the continuity from last year with the same guys was going to be
a strong thing but it's so evident we've all been sailing
different boats over the winter and our perceptions on things
are different. We're getting round the track really nicely and
we communicate really well together but we're missing a few
things…"
