Dennis Conner's North Cove
Update on our Patron Dennis Conner
It's been a busy yachting season here in the Big Apple. And just this week, Dennis
Conner, the Patron of North Cove, was selected as one of the inaugural inductees
in the National Sailing Hall of Fame. The ceremony will be held October 23 at the
San Diego Yacht Club. http://2011halloffamers.nshof.org
No real surprise here as Dennis was the greatest sailor ever produced by America
for the America's Cup. And he competed when the nationality clause meant something
so his team was made up of fellow US sailors. Dennis grew up sailing in San Diego
before traveling around the world which also brought him to New York City, hence
his patronage of North Cove.
Yacht owners and captains frequently ask when they arrive if Dennis is in town and
also what he is doing nowadays. Well, Dennis is still very active and his recent
achievements speak for themselves.
In July, Dennis competed in the Etchell World Championships, one of the most competitive
one-design classes in the world. He finished 6th overall, an incredible achievement.

And last weekend, Dennis competed in the McNish Classic in his newly restored yacht
"Fame." She was built in 1910. The McNish Classic is held at the Pacific Corinthian
Sailing Club, in Oxnard, CA. http://www.pcyc.org/mcnishpage.html
Dennis was awarded "Best Looking Boat" (again no surprise if know Dennis' eye for
detail and his commitment to excellence) and finished 6th overall on elapsed time.
